February Publicity Tip: How to make the most out of an old book

February 28 2018

This month’s tip from The Book Publicist tells you everything you need to know about getting the most out of an old book

Do you have a book that’s a year or so old? Think you’ve missed a trick with publicising it? Well, have no fear – it isn’t too late! This month’s tip from the team at The Book Publicist tells you everything you need to know about getting the most out of an old book… Traditionally, book publicity campaigns are focussed on the few months around publication and on getting book reviews in the national press. This is super important. BUT there is so much more you can do to get your book and your name out there. Here are a few of our tried and tested routes to generating powerful books publicity beyond the book – and beyond publication.  Number one: offer comment and guest articles to relevant publications. This is a fantastic way to get your voice heard and the publication will usually include a plug for your book in the article. Also, by being introduced as the author of a book, you will automatically be given author cred – the best type of credibility (in our humble, bookish opinion!).  Number two: keep a beady eye out for news stories that you can hijack. What’s creating waves in the media right now? Can you comment on it? Has a new survey been released that makes your book particularly topical? If so, jump on it! Number three: are there any awareness days/weeks/months that make your book highly relevant? Stress Awareness Month? World Thinking Day? National Smile Month? If so this is a great time to do a quick-fire, booster publicity campaign. Check out our blog for a list of relevant awareness days and see if there are any brilliant opportunities for your book.  Number four: offer copies of the book for competitions, giveaways or as subscription incentives – this is a great way to get an older book into the pages of magazines.  We hope you’ve found this useful – please do get in touch if you’d like us to help you make the most of any of these opportunities.
