The Book Publicist launch OUP book in prestigious history and mainstream UK and US media

Ted Powell

Delivering a genre-defying campaign for historian and lecturer Ted Powell’s King Edward VIII: An American Life (Oxford University Press), The Book Publicist placed this scholarly royal biography firmly on the mainstream media agenda.

Our Approach

Tapping into heightened public interest ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, we shaped a timely narrative around royal rebellion and transatlantic identity, earning coverage on BBC Radio 2 with Chris Evans, and interviews and comments in Daily Express, Metro and The Guardian.

A standout moment included Ted’s guest spot on Dan Snow’s HistoryHit, one of the UK’s most popular history podcasts with a monthly listenership in the region of 3 million, alongside a feature in BBC History magazine, introducing his work to a major history audience. We also secured strong reviews, with All About History calling the book ‘a fresh perspective on how an American adventure shaped the royal rebel’.

Big wins in New York Post

In a cross-genre campaign that spanned both traditional history media and trend-driven lifestyle titles alike, we placed a full-length author interview in glossy woman’s mag Cosmopolitan – proving how a well-shaped, newsworthy narrative can transcend media boundaries.

And the reach didn’t stop at the UK: we launched a successful international push, securing a major opinion piece for Ted in the New York Post, which reaches over 130 million monthly readers online!

From history buffs to royal-watchers, this campaign brought King Edward VIII: An American Life to the forefront of public conversation, demonstrating the power of sharp positioning, timely angles and strategic media outreach.

I appointed The Book Publicist to generate PR for the launch of my book Edward VIII: An American Life (Oxford University Press). Through the campaign they secured 60+ pieces of coverage in publications like Guardian, Daily Express, New York Post and Cosmopolitan. A highlight for me was the interview they secured with Chris Evans on his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.
